Coffee, Bacon Butties and Beach Views in Callao Salvaje

Friday vibes at Lost Sea: bacon toast, sunny outlook, and no walks today.

A Friday Morning at Playa Ajabo

Ladles and jelly spoons, it’s Friday again, and this morning I’ve decided to take things a little easier.

Instead of going for one of my usual walks, I’m sitting at Lost Sea (L’Osteria Sea), the beach café overlooking Playa Ajabo in Callao Salvaje, Tenerife.

There’s a lovely view, the sun is trying to make an appearance, and I’ve ordered myself a proper large coffee.

What more could you want on a Friday morning?

Well, perhaps a bacon sandwich.

A Look at the Lost Sea Menu

One of the things I enjoy doing during these broadcasts is showing people what restaurants and cafés actually offer, rather than simply telling them somewhere is nice.

Lost Sea has quite an extensive menu, with everything from a traditional English breakfast to pancakes, waffles, salads, burgers and rather more elaborate brunch dishes.

A large white coffee was listed at €4, while the full English breakfast was €13.95.

They also had a bacon toast dish at €10.50, although that normally comes with poached eggs, guacamole and Béarnaise sauce.

I decided to ask for something a little simpler: bacon and toast, without all the extras.

And when it arrived, I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

A Proper Bacon Butty

The sandwich came with a generous helping of bacon, and the big decision was how to cut it.

Triangles or squares?

The live chat had its opinions, naturally.

I went for triangles, and the bacon was lovely.

That started another conversation about whether you should put sauce on a bacon sandwich.

Personally, I don’t see the point of covering everything in brown sauce. If all you can taste is the sauce, why bother paying for good bacon in the first place?

I prefer to taste the individual ingredients.

Which, of course, led us into an entirely different subject.

What on Earth Is Gentleman’s Relish?

Somebody mentioned Gentleman’s Relish, and I wasn’t entirely sure what it was.

So I asked Siri.

It turns out to be a traditional British savoury spread made with anchovies, butter and spices.

The viewers had plenty to say about it. Some liked it, some didn’t, and others suggested using a little in cooking to bring out the flavour.

That reminded me of something else I enjoy making: pizza.

And not just any pizza.

Mine has anchovies, pineapple, olives and mozzarella. I make the dough myself, and recently I’ve been experimenting with cooking it in my air fryer.

I realise that anchovies and pineapple together might upset a few Italian viewers, but I like it!

What’s Happening with Webby and the Football?

Earlier in the programme I also talked about the new football video I’ve been creating for Webby and Simon.

Their programmes have moved to Beer House, and I’ve been working on the graphics and video introduction for the new venue.

I even played a little of the finished video during the show.

We also talked about whether Webby and Kevin would be joining us for Freaky Friday later that evening.

A Trip Down Memory Lane with Lee The MacMaster

Another lovely part of the morning was remembering an early video I made with Lee The MacMaster.

We first met in 2019, and one of our earliest outings together was around Adeje town, with Christine joining us.

I recently watched that old recording again.

It’s always interesting to see how much things have changed, not just the places we visit, but ourselves as well.

A New Way to Build Websites

The conversation also turned to technology.

I’ve been using Slider Revolution on my website for some time, and I explained its newer Anywhere service, which offers templates and web-based editing tools for creating website content.

The idea is that you can build a page or interactive element and then embed it into a compatible website.

For anybody interested in creating a website without getting too deeply involved in programming, it’s something worth investigating.

I showed viewers how my own website uses sliders, photographs and different sections to present the channel and our programmes.

The Live Chat Joins In

As always, the audience made the morning more entertaining.

There were discussions about food prices, Webby’s football programme, travel plans, and the difference between a good bacon sandwich and one that has far too much sauce.

One viewer also asked why the Canary Islands doesn’t have the same approach to tourist taxes as places such as the Balearic Islands and Catalonia.

It’s an interesting question, and one that deserves a proper look at the different regional policies rather than a quick comparison.

We also had viewers joining us from around the UK and beyond, together with the usual friendly greetings and jokes.

Another Friday Morning in Tenerife

What started as a simple coffee at the beach turned into another enjoyable conversation about food, technology, broadcasting and life in Tenerife.

That’s the beauty of these mornings.

You never really know where the conversation is going to end up.

Thanks to everybody who joined in, sent questions, supported the channel or simply enjoyed their morning coffee with me.

See you on the next one — and don’t forget Freaky Friday!
