The ‘Pasos Chicos’ procession marks the beginning of Holy Week in AdejeEaster

Holy Week celebrations in Adeje begin on April 11th with the procession of La Piedad and culminate on April 20th with the solemn Easter Eucharist. The schedule includes various religious and cultural events, such as the popular ‘Pasos Chicos’ procession and the traditional live Passion Play, La Pasión. The liturgical period concludes on May 11th with the Rogation of the Lustral Year.

From 11 to 20 April, the town’s parishes will lead a calendar of religious and cultural events.

This weekend Adeje begins its Holy Week liturgical celebrations, with the ‘Pasos Chicos’ procession taking centre stage. This event, which will take place on Saturday 12 April at 6.30pm, is one of the most popular processions, as it includes the participation of children from catechism classes, their families and members of the public. The procession has attracted considerable attention since its inception, made up of miniature processional statues adapted to the children’s size, which make their way from the church in Los Olivos to the main parish church of Santa Úrsula.

Holy Week celebrations actually begin the day before, with the procession of La Piedad accompanied by Adeje’s older residents. This is followed on Saturday by the ‘Pasos Chicos’ and on Sunday by the blessing of palms in the morning in the various parishes and the Oración en el Huerto procession in the afternoon, taking place in the Los Olivos neighbourhood.

The parishes in the borough of Adeje are fully prepared to deliver the religious and cultural programme planned for Holy Week. The schedule, jointly organised by the town’s parishes and Adeje Town Hall, is available to consult online at adeje.es. A full programme of events.

The schedule continues on Monday 14 April at 7.30pm with a Eucharist in the hermitage of La Viña, followed by the procession of Our Lady of Hope, accompanied by the processional images of Saint John the Evangelist, Jesus of Sorrows, Jesus Captive and Abandoned, and Saint Mary Magdalene. This major procession moves through the La Postura neighbourhood and includes civic authorities, representatives of all state security forces, the volunteer fire brigade, Civil Protection, the Adeje Patronal Band, the Army’s 2nd Military Band (Brylcan XVI), image bearers the Hermandad del Santísimo, the Damas de la Piedad, and members of the La Postura neighbourhood association.

On Tuesday 15 April at 6.30pm, following mass in Santa Úrsula, the Encuentro (Meeting) procession takes place, representing Jesus the Nazarene on the road to Calvary with his mother. The procession will be accompanied by the Adeje Patronal Band.

The Humility and Patience procession will be held on Wednesday 16 April, beginning at 6pm in the historic town centre and making its way to Los Olivos, where mass will be celebrated upon arrival, followed by a return to the main parish church.

On Maundy Thursday, 17 April, the Mandato procession begins at 8.30pm and includes the images of Jesus at the Last Supper, Calvary,

and Our Lady of Hope. This is one of the most solemn of the week’s processions and will be accompanied by the municipal corporation, a Hermandad del Santísimo, a cast member playing one of the Apostles in the Good Friday Passion Play and the Adeje Patronal Band.

On Good Friday, 18 April, Adeje will host the traditional live Passion Play, La Pasión, beginning at 12 noon on the Calle Grande, with over 300 people taking part, including cast, crew and technical personnel.

The performance features eight stages representing the key moments of Christ’s last days, and concludes with the crucifixion in the Plaza España.

Later in the day the Holy Burial procession will take place, followed at nightfall by the Silent Procession—one of the most moving events for the people of Adeje. This will be followed by the Solemn Easter Vigil on Saturday, celebrated in both the parish of Santa Úrsula (Adeje town centre) and the parish of San José (Los Olivos).

Finally, Easter Sunday, 20 April, will see the solemn Easter Eucharist celebrated in the borough’s five parish churches as well as in the Church of San Sebastián in La Caleta.

The liturgical period will come to a close on Sunday 11 May with the traditional Rogation of the Lustral Year, featuring the formal proclamation and start of the Jubilee Year. The pilgrimage will set out at 9am from the parish church of Santa Úrsula Mártir and conclude at San Sebastián
