On Saturday, 5 April, at 7:00 pm, Adeje will officially begin the  2025 Holy Week programme with an inaugural event at the El Barranco History and Art Space, located in the  Plaza de España Tower.

The evening will feature a  *Proclamation of Praise for Adeje’s Holy Week´, the opening of two themed exhibitions, and a sacred music concert as part of the Canary Islands Sacred Music Festival.

This year’s proclamation will be delivered by Episcopal Vicar Honorio Campos Gutiérrez, currently the parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción and San Isidro in La Orotava. He previously served as parish priest of Santa Úrsula in Adeje town for over a decade. His address will be accompanied by a panel discussion featuring personal reflections on the key elements of Adeje’s Holy Week, including the liturgy, processional images, enactments, and more, presented by groups that traditionally take part in the celebrations.

As part of the event, the sacred music concert will be performed by ‘Tredici Trío’, whose performance is part of the Canary Islands Sacred Music Festival.

Additionally, two exhibitions will be opened on the same evening and will stay open to the public until 16 April. The first, “Reliquias y objetos sagrados. Poder y devoción en el mundo judeocristiano” (relics and sacred objects: power and devotion in the Judeo-Christian world), explores significant symbols such as the Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail, the Shroud of Turin, and the Spear of Longinus. The second, “Arqueología bíblica “. Cuando la ciencia rastrea el mito” (Biblical archaeology: When science follow myth), showcases discoveries and studies on biblical episodes such as the Great Flood, the Tower of Babel, and the Holy Sepulchre.

Journalist and researcher José Gregorio González, an expert in the history of religion, will introduce both exhibitions.

The exhibitions will be open to the public, free of charge, until 16 April, with limited capacity. Visiting hours are as follows:

● 6 April: 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

● 7–11 April: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm & 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
