Starting at San Sebastián
This walk begins at the San Sebastián commercial centre near Adeje, close to the TF-1. It is a familiar stopping point, but the road behind it was new territory, so the plan was simple: follow it, see where it led and return in time for breakfast.
The first part of the route passes the commercial buildings before opening onto newer roads and landscaped areas. Adeje Shopping can be seen in the distance, while the quieter streets lead towards plots of land and some striking modern homes.
Tenerife’s Luxury Villa Roads
The further the walk continues, the grander the properties become. There are glass-fronted villas, high walls, building plots and roads that feel surprisingly empty. One detour leads towards a private development, a house with a dramatic pool and what appears to be a palm nursery serving the surrounding properties.
It is an unusual side of Tenerife to explore on foot. The roads offer glimpses into an area built for privacy, while the views look back towards Costa Adeje and the busier shopping district below.
The Uphill Return
After reaching the end of the detour, it is time to turn around. The return journey is uphill, which makes the promise of breakfast even more appealing. The route eventually brings us back towards San Sebastián and the BP station beside the motorway.
A Giant Bacon Bocadillo
Bar Restaurante San Sebastián is the reward at the end of the walk. The order is a café con leche and a bacon bocadillo with extra bacon. When it arrives, the sandwich is enormous: soft bread, plenty of tender bacon and enough food to last for most of the day.
The standard bacon bocadillo is listed at €3.90, with another €0.50 for the extra bacon. Two coffees and the sandwich come to €7.20 in the programme, making it a memorable Tenerife bargain as well as a very satisfying breakfast.
Looking Through the Menu
The menu offers plenty more than bacon. The programme highlights an American-style bocadillo with ham, cheese, egg, bacon and salad, along with other sandwiches, meals and inexpensive coffees. The prices shown are those seen during this visit and may change, but they demonstrate why the restaurant is popular with local workers and anyone looking for good value.
It is a walk with two very different discoveries: peaceful roads lined with millionaire villas, followed by one of the biggest bacon sandwiches in Tenerife.
