Adeje is set to experience a weekend rich in Canarian tradition and cultural identity, with two events that reflect the town’s ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting local heritage. Hosted by the Imoque Cultural Association and the Adeje Municipal School of Folklore, these activities celebrate the customs, music, and stories that are a living part of island life.

Festival Imoque – ‘Identity’
On Saturday, 8 November, Plaza de San Sebastián in La Caleta will host the ninth edition of Festival Imoque, themed “Identity”. From 12 noon, the square will become a vibrant meeting point for crafts, traditional writing, local gastronomy, and folklore. Book lovers can explore Canarian literature, with author signings by Clara Isabel Rufino Baquero (Dímelo en Canario 2) and Alfredo López Pérez “Isoko” (Amaro Pargo, Fe, Amor y Raíces).
Workshops will offer hands-on experiences with iconic Canarian traditions, including salto del pastor (shepherd’s leap), silbo gomero (whistling language from La Gomera), and juego del palo (stick play). The event also features tastings of local food products such as gofio, honey, wine, and cheese.

The musical programme includes performances by the children’s group Parranda del CEIP Isaac de Vega and a drumming workshop from La Gomera led by Luis Martínez. The day concludes at 8 pm with a Folklore Festival, featuring the El Zascandil Group from Castilla y León, the Imoque Cultural Association, and a special guest performance by Conrado Díaz.
‘Pasos de Vida y Muerte’ – Theatre in the Streets
On Sunday, 9 November, the Adeje Municipal School of Folklore presents a new edition of the theatrical route “Pasos de Vida y Muerte” (“Steps of Life and Death”). This moving performance honours All Souls’ Day and will take place at 7.30 pm in Plaza del Emigrante, behind the main Town Hall.

The event transforms public spaces into a living stage, animating the streets with dramatized scenes of traditional music, dance, song, and tales that evoke Adeje’s past. More than mere performance, it is a shared cultural experience that reconnects younger generations with the town’s ancestral customs—paying homage to life, death, and the community’s enduring spirit.
From lively music and delicious local flavours to emotional storytelling, this weekend promises to immerse visitors and residents in the essence of Canarian folklore and identity.
