Adeje will welcome the festive season this Sunday, 14 December, with the opening of its Belén de Tradiciones — a traditional nativity scene paired with a rich exhibition celebrating centuries of local Christmas customs and rituals. The event will take place at the El Barranco History and Art Space in the Plaza de España, beginning at 6pm.

Organised by Adeje Town Hall and the Municipal Folklore School Group, the initiative aims to preserve and showcase the borough’s Christmas heritage through a blend of artistic creations, cultural displays and popular traditions.
A living nativity to start the celebration
At the opening event, members of the folklore group will offer a live reenactment of the nativity scene, depicting Mary, Joseph and the Baby Jesus dressed in traditional Canary Islands attire. In the days following, the space will transform into a static nativity display, enriched by artistic elements and natural settings recreated by local artists.

Exhibition of Christmas customs
Visitors will also be able to explore a wide-ranging exhibition featuring:
- Musical instruments and traditional decorations
- Historic photographs and Christmas artefacts
- Clothing and seasonal recipes
- Panels with historical texts, Christmas carols and New Year verses
- Television displays showing images and portraits from Adeje’s past
- Audio reproductions including a traditional theatrical performance of the Three Kings
To close the opening evening, the Municipal Folklore School Group will perform some of the most traditional Christmas carols from the region.
