The streets and hills of Adeje will once again come alive this Sunday, 19 April, as one of the municipality’s most cherished traditions returns — the Rogation Pilgrimage in honour of the Virgen de La Encarnación.
This deeply rooted religious event marks the closing of the Lustral Year, which began in 2025, and continues a historic promise upheld by generations of Adeje residents.

A Day of Tradition and Community
The day begins early at 8:15am with a pilgrimage mass at Santa Úrsula church. From there, at 9:00am, the statue of Nuestra Señora de La Encarnación will begin its journey towards the church of San Sebastián in La Enramada.
Before setting off, participants will take part in traditional rituals including the distribution of staffs and the blessing of both people and animals.
This is not just a religious procession — it’s a full community event, with participation from local groups, catechism members, and even the Volunteer Firefighters, who will provide a special pyrotechnic tribute. Local police will be present throughout to ensure everything runs smoothly.

A Route Filled with Meaning
The pilgrimage follows a symbolic route with several important stops along the way:
- Adeje Cemetery – a moment to honour those who have passed
- Portón de la Virgen
- The Era – a brief pause point
- El Humilladero – the traditional site where the Virgin was first found
At the final stage, the Virgen de La Encarnación will be welcomed by San Sebastián, co-patron saint of Adeje. Together, they will enter the church for mass, followed by a communal gathering.

A Safe and Well-Organised Event
A full security and emergency operation will be in place throughout the day, ensuring the event is both safe and enjoyable for everyone involved.
The statue is expected to return to Santa Úrsula parish at approximately 4:00pm, bringing the day’s celebrations — and the Lustral Year — to a meaningful close.
Summary
Adeje’s Rogation Pilgrimage is more than just a religious event — it’s a powerful expression of tradition, community, and history. With hundreds expected to take part, it remains one of the most important cultural moments in the local calendar.
