Adeje to introduce major improvements in waste collection and public space cleaning

The new contract, worth 13 million euros annually, will mean seven-day-a-week collection in the busiest areas, 209 cleaning professionals and a new fleet of vehicles, among other substantial improvements.

📌 Summary: Adeje Town Hall has awarded one of its largest contracts to improve waste collection, street cleaning, and public space upkeep. The eight-year deal will increase staff, introduce more electric vehicles, and ensure daily household waste collection in key areas like Adeje town and Costa Adeje.

A Step Forward for Adeje

Adeje Town Hall has taken an important step to improve waste collection, public space cleaning, and the upkeep of leisure areas across the municipality. The new contract, awarded to a joint venture between Ascan Servicios Urbanos and Torrabonaf SL, is one of the most significant ever managed by the local government.

Mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga described it as “a complete improvement of a service of vital importance, one that must meet the main demands of our residents.”

Bigger Team, Greener Fleet

The agreement will run for eight years, with a possible two-year extension. Key improvements include:

  • Staff increase from 171 to 209 employees
  • Renewal and expansion of the fleet with hybrid and electric vehicles
  • Daily waste collection in main population centres, including Adeje town, La Postura, and Costa Adeje
  • More frequent cleaning in high-demand or problematic areas

Councillor for Works and Services, Epifanio Díaz Hernández, praised the municipal team for efficiently managing one of the most complex contracts they handle.

Sustainable and Responsive Services

The upgrades are designed to meet strict sustainability standards and improve waste treatment. The annual cost will be around 13 million euros, about 4 million euros more than before.

The contract also covers:

  • Emergency operations
  • Cleaning of ravines in urban areas
  • Seaweed removal from beaches
  • Clearing verges and rural tracks
  • A special cleaning system for streets and pavements

Technology and Community Involvement

Another key change is the introduction of new applications and monitoring technologies. These will help optimise collection routes and detect service disruptions. Residents will also be able to provide input, ensuring services remain responsive to community needs.

Looking Ahead

Once the council gives final approval, the new service is expected to begin within two months. Both the Mayor and councillor stressed that improvements are urgently needed and will be delivered with diligence and efficiency.
