Black Sound Costa Adeje Brings Soul, Funk and R&B to Plaza Salytien

Get your groove on at Black Sound Costa Adeje: soul, funk, R&B & jazz collide on 25–26 September.

If you fancy a bit of soul, funk, R&B and jazz this weekend, Costa Adeje might just have the answer. Black Sound Costa Adeje returns to Plaza Salytien on 25 and 26 September with two nights celebrating the music, its African roots and the influence it has had across generations.

Two Nights of Black Music in Costa Adeje

Black Sound Costa Adeje is back this weekend, bringing together some impressive voices from the worlds of soul, funk, R&B, jazz and gospel.

The festival takes place on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September 2026 at Plaza Salytien in Costa Adeje.

This year’s line-up features Brequette, Gwen Thomas, Alex Dee and Noemi Moncrief, accompanied by the BSBand, under the musical direction of guitarist Sergio “DiEbony” Cebrián.

The event is supported by the Culture Department of Adeje Town Hall.

Gwen Thomas

One of the artists appearing at the festival is Gwen Thomas, whose musical background stretches back to singing in church.

That gospel influence remains an important part of his sound, alongside jazz, funk and African rhythms.

During his international career he has shared a stage with Stevie Wonder and has performed in front of musical figures including Quincy Jones.

That’s not a bad CV, is it?

Brequette

Also appearing is Brequette, who was born in Cape Town and has been based in the Canary Islands for many years.

She has become well known for a powerful and versatile voice that moves comfortably between soul, R&B and pop, as well as appearing in television and musical projects.

Many people in the Canaries will already recognise her, so she should be a popular addition to the weekend.

Alex Dee

Alex Dee is closely associated with the Spanish funk and soul scene and has worked on several projects alongside Sergio Cebrián.

Those projects have included Remembering Prince, while both musicians are also members of M.I.5.

Earlier this year the group presented Secret Service of Funk at Teatro Leal in La Laguna, concentrating very much on the rhythmic, danceable side of soul, funk and R&B.

Noemi Moncrief

Completing the line-up in the information supplied to us is Málaga-born singer Noemi Moncrief.

Her repertoire includes music influenced by soul, neo-soul, rock soul and funk, bringing yet another slightly different sound to the festival.

And Then There’s the Band

Holding everything together will be the BSBand, directed by Sergio “DiEbony” Cebrián.

Cebrián has decades of experience as a musician, director and educator and has been involved with projects including Remembering Prince and the Mr. Dynamite – James Brown Experience.

So this isn’t simply a case of putting a few singers on a stage with a backing track.

The emphasis here is very much on live musicians and live performance.

More Than Just a Couple of Concerts

What I quite like about Black Sound Costa Adeje is that the organisers aren’t simply treating soul and funk as a collection of great songs to dance to.

The festival also recognises where this music came from.

Soul, jazz, gospel, funk and R&B developed out of generations of musical and cultural experience, particularly within African and African-descended communities, and eventually became part of the musical language heard around the world.

And of course you don’t need to know any of that to enjoy it.

Sometimes you can simply turn up, listen to a great singer, hear a proper band playing live and enjoy yourself.

There’s nothing wrong with that either.

The Bottom Line

If you’re in Costa Adeje on 25 or 26 September, Black Sound Costa Adeje could be well worth a look.

You’ve got four very different voices, a full live band and two evenings dedicated to some of the most influential music of the last century.

And it’s all happening right here in Costa Adeje.
