Adeje Strengthens Coastal Safety with New Self-Inflating Lifebuoys
Adeje has taken a significant step to improve safety along its coastline with the acquisition of 50 ONEUP PRO self-inflating lifebuoys, designed to boost emergency response in areas that are difficult to access.
The initiative comes from the Department of Tourism and Beaches together with the Department of Security and Emergencies, led by councillors Patricia Paulsen Fölling and Mercedes Vargas Delgado. Both highlighted that these devices are “essential to continue consolidating a safer coastline for residents and visitors.”

What Are the ONEUP PRO Lifebuoys?
The new devices are:
- Portable, compact, and lightweight
- Self-inflating upon contact with water
- Equipped with reflective elements and a securing rope
- Reusable, requiring only a replacement CO₂ cartridge
The lifebuoys have been distributed to:
- Local Police
- Civil Protection and Rescue teams
- Adeje Volunteer Firefighters
- Beach lifeguard services
Why This Matters
These tools are especially valuable in coastal areas without permanent supervision. Their fast activation and ease of use allow both municipal staff and bystanders to respond quickly in an emergency, potentially saving lives.
The action forms part of Adeje’s broader drowning-prevention strategy and aligns with the requirements of the Coastal Law and current civil-protection regulations. It represents the municipality’s ongoing commitment to ensuring safer beaches and bathing zones.
